Why Us?
Contour Trails is a team of Trail Builders that want to Enhance the Outdoor Experience for all. Contour Trails has the skill set to build the perfect trail for any application whether it be the avid mountain biker; the trail runner and hikers; or the local kid on his run bike.
With years of experience building our team has a vast knowledge in building sustainable trails which stand the test of time and heavy use. We understand the risk management in building a trail network safely, and the desire to have every walk of life enjoy their trails.
Our accomplishments is not just bike trails. We have built gravel paths for city projects, trail networks for world class golf courses, hiking trails for BC Parks and numerous trails around the North Okanagan. If it is outside and involves a trail, Contour Trails can build it.
The Team
Cameron Sorensen
As the founder of Contour Trails, Cameron Sorensen has been building trails for over 25 years, with 15 + of those managing the SilverStar Bike Park. In the early days of mountain biking there was very little knowledge out there about how to build a sustainable mountain bike trail. Cam got his start building rogue trails around the North Okanagan, all of which are now sanctioned and local favorites. From these early beginnings SilverStar resort did not have a dedicated trail crew. The trails were old roads or fall line trails built for races. As the sport grew and matured SilverStar approached Cam to lead their trail crew and see if they could grow the lift access mountain biking culture. Cam quickly realized with the traffic a lift can bring to a trail they had to be built properly and in a way that could be sustainable. He and the crew wanted to be building new and fresh trails, so this meant the existing trails had to be built in such a way they needed less maintenance so they could free up time for different projects. This is also around the time Whistler Bike Park came out with A-Line. That trail changed the face of mountain biking forever.
Cam continued his pursuit of building the perfect trail. Most builders are welcoming in letting people learn from them. With the explosion of the modern day bike park there were people that had knowledge to pass on. There were trail building conferences, workshops, books and online blogs all about how to build better trails. Cam soaked all this up. Taking it all to practice in the SilverStar Bike Park.
Over the next 15+ years SilverStar Bike Park is where Cam honed his skills as a trail builder and has had the privilege of working with some of the best in the business. Many of which he leans on now for his own company to bring better trails to mountain bikers everywhere.
Cam was involved with IMBA Canada, and was a volunteer board member on the BC Council helping grow the sport of mountain biking in BC. He is also a past Board Member of NOCS (North Okanagan Cycling Society, 1400+ members) and is still very involved with the volunteer club. He continues to work with the local trail youth program, the Trail Ninjas, on how to be good stewards for the trails in the North Okanagan.
Cam has also worked with CanWest and Whistler Bike Park on numerous projects related to signage and safety in Canadian Bike Parks. He has traveled extensively to learn different building techniques and see different trail designs, including Peru, New Zealand, Colorado, Utah, Australia and most recently Norway. Through this time he has attended countless workshops on Trial Building, including the IMBA World Bike Summit in Colorado, Whistlers Trails Solutions, IMBA Trail Care, Gravity Logic, the North Shore Builders Academy, and a regular at the BC MTB Tourism Symposium.
